Welcome!  The Junior Lifeguard Program began in 1997 with only 30 children .  We feel that it is the most complete Jr. program in Delaware.  Please review the information below and you can even fill out an application  to secure a spot for your child this summer.  Space is limited so don’t delay.

2008 Summer Season Schedule:

June 9 start
August 4 competition
August 11th last day

Program Purpose:

To increase the self-confidence, physical conditioning, and ocean awareness of program participants through their introduction to water safety, first aid, and surf rescue techniques.

Description of Program:
The program begins in late June and runs to the middle of August.  We meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00am to 9:10am.  Each session begins with a group stretch.  The group is then split into Red and White sub-groups depending upon age and engages in aerobic and anaerobic activities.  This will vary from running, swimming, sit-ups, and push-ups.  Our goal is to stimulate the participant’s body while having fun at the same time.  We also work on cognitive skills.  Learning beach rules and guarding skills are stressed each day.  With any time remaining the juniors will take part in team games devised to reinforce teamwork and better their communication skills.  Your child will leave this program with many new skills that he/she can apply to everyday life.

Instructors:

The program is instructed by lifeguards who posses exceptional communication skills and have a complete understanding of the surrounding beach environment.
